MONROE — A Monroe driver and his passenger face criminal charges after an April 21 crash near Juda that injured both, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
Daniel Joseph Kundert, 29, was seriously injured in the accident. He was taken in an ambulance to Monroe Clinic, then airlifted to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. A UW Health spokesperson reported he was in good condition as of April 24.
His passenger, 26-year-old Jean Erika Justice of Monroe, sustained injuries and was also taken to Monroe Clinic. She was referred to the District Attorney for a charge of possessing a controlled substance, suspected cocaine.
Kundert was referred for charges of possessing marijuana and felony fourth-offense operating while intoxicated causing injuries.
The crash happened shortly before 8 p.m. on Wisconsin 11 west of County S in the Town of Jefferson. Kundert was westbound in a 2003 Chevy Cavalier when the car crossed the centerline into the path of an eastbound semi tractor trailer, a 2000 Freightliner, said Chief Deputy Tom Moczynski.
The semi driver, 34-year-old Simon Larson of Beloit, took evasive action but was unable to avoid colliding with the car. Larson and his passenger, 26-year-old Ryan DeBusk of Mount Horeb, were uninjured.
