LENA - William J. Broege, 77, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2008 at Lena Living Center. He was born on October 18, 1931 in Waddams Grove, Illinois, the son of William and Mariah (Mast) Broege. Bill was married on January 23, 1948 in Freeport, Ill., to Patricia Foy. Bill owned and operated the Sinclair Station in Lena for many years. He also worked for a cement contractor and later three years for the Chrysler plant in Belvidere, Ill. In the early 1960s Bill was employed by Lena Farmers Exchange as an auto mechanic until he retired in 1998. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and visiting with friends and family.

Surviving is his wife, Patricia of Freeport; two sons, Gary (Cheryl) Broege of Machesney Park, Ill., and Dennis (Debra Boeck) Broege of Lena, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Jolene Broege of Freeport; two brothers, Robert Broege of Chicago and Charles Broege of Pearl City, Ill.; a sister, Phyllis Broege of Chicago; seven grandchildren, Chad (Lisa) Broege, Chris (Stephanie) Broege, Cali (Dustin) Oberbroeckling, Gary Broege Jr., Penny Green, Brian Broege, Michelle Broege; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer and Raymond; two sisters, Dorothy and Mabel; and a son, Duain, in 2002.

Services will be held on Monday December 29, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Leamon Funeral Home in Lena. The Rev. Diane Jochum will officiate the services.

Visitation will be held on Sunday December 28, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Leamon Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Lena Burial Park.

A memorial has been established in his name.
