Wesley F. "Wes" Meier, age 81 of Monroe, Wisconsin entered eternal rest on Friday, April 19, 2013. He was born August 6, 1931, the son of Freddie and Alta (Hale) Meier. Wes attended South Wayne Grade and High Schools graduating with the class of 1950.
Dorothea Sacker and Wesley married on April 1, 1950 at the Evangelical Reformed Parsonage in Browntown. They were blessed with five children: Dennis (Maris) Meier of Monroe, WI; Diane (Don) Hawkinson of Gratiot, WI; Gary Meier of Russellville, AR; Russell (Corrine) Meier of Monroe, WI; and Timothy (Lisa Kolosso) Meier of Verona, WI. Besides his wife and children, Wes is also survived by 11 Grandchildren; 7 Great-Grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty West of Rockford, IL & Rosemary (Gaylord) Voegeli of Monroe, WI; sister-in-law, Betty Alston of Lakewood Village, TX; brother-in-law, Nathan Sacker of DeLand, FL; and sister-in-law, Caroline (Jerry) Ontjes of Ridott, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie & Alta (Hale) Meier; his father & mother-in-law, Edward & Frieda (Pehl) Sacker; his sister, Pauline (Meier) Peters; and granddaughter, Megan O. Meier, daughter of Timothy Meier & Lisa Kolosso of Verona, WI.
Wes lived in South Wayne, WI all of his life retiring to Monroe in 2004, recently living at Twining Valley Apartments. He was a member of the South Wayne United Methodist Church most of his life, having recently attended Monroe United Methodist Church with his daughter and son-in-law. Wes began as a mechanic in Meier's Garage owned by his father and spent nearly 31 years in the oil business, first with Standard Oil, followed by working for Pecatonica Co-op, both in South Wayne. He also drove school bus and was a member of the volunteer fire department for the South Wayne area. He enjoyed meeting the children of the people he delivered gas and oil to and the children he drove school bus for. Wes enjoyed the company of his friends at the Twining Valley Apartments and their many hours of playing cards together. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, April 22, 2013 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive & N. 18th Avenue in Monroe and from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Monroe United Methodist Church with Pastor Pat Soddy officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Union Cemetery in South Wayne, WI.
Memorials to Liberty Dialysis Center in Wesley's memory would be appreciated by the family.
