Wallace "Red" Lindsay, age 89 of Monroe, died Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on August 24, 1926 in Monroe, the son of Albert and Edna (Pfund) Lindsay. He attended Monroe High School. He was a heavy truck operator in the Army from December of 1944 to August 1946; he served in the Pacific Theater operations. Red married Patricia J. Stubbe on October 8, 1949 in Monroe. He started out working at General Motors, he then owned and operated Green County Salvage until 1976 when he sold the business. He then worked for Corner Stone Construction as a Mason, and belonged to the Wisconsin Masons Union. He was a member of the American Legion Zilmer Riley, post #84 and the V.F.W. Cecil Jones post #2312. He enjoyed playing the lottery, gambling and going to the boat.
He is survived by his sons: Mark (Marsha) Lindsay and Curt (Kathie) Lindsay, both of Monroe; 5 grandchildren: Nicole, Brian, Bruce, Calli and Travis; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 2 sisters: Geraldine Schwitzer of Janesville, and Marlene (Irvin) Rohl of Rockford, IL; 7 nephews; 5 nieces; numerous great nephews and nieces; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia; a brother, Ralph; a sister, Joyce Bergmann; and 2 nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, November 19, 2015 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home, with Pastor John Tabaka officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am, until the time of service. Memorials may be given in Red's name to the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Assoc.
