Viola Stuessy, age 98, of Brodhead, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital, Monroe, WI. She was born on May 30, 1913 in New Glarus, WI, the daughter of John and Barbara (Stuessy) Rhyner. She married Robert E. Stuessy on October 19, 1941 in New Glarus. He passed away on January 14, 2002.

Viola and her husband farmed in Decatur Township and moved to Brodhead in 1979. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Brodhead, The Brodhead Garden Club and The Brodhead Senior Center. She loved writing poetry, traveling, watching tennis, playing cards, gardening and genealogy.

Viola is survived by a son, Robert J. Stuessy , a daughter, Rhonda (James) Volk, both of Madison, and two grandchildren, Gina and John Stuessy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Hilda Hauser, and two brothers, Gilbert and Ivan Rhyner.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011 at the United Methodist Church, Brodhead, with Pastor Pat Soddy officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, Brodhead. The D.L.
