NEW GLARUS - Viola Hoesly Haines, age 88, of New Glarus, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2008, at the New Glarus Home. Viola was born on May 29, 1919, to Andrew and Bertha (Hefty) Hoesly in New Glarus Township. She graduated from New Glarus High School in 1936 and attended the Graula Barnhart Business School. Viola worked for Pet Milk Co. for several years then moved to Milwaukee where she was employed by the Veterans Administration. In 1953 she moved to Long Beach, CA and worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Long Beach until she retired in 1981. On May 15, 1954, she was united in marriage to Fred Haines. She was a bookkeeper in her husband's paint store for many years. Viola returned to New Glarus in 1993. She was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus.
She is survived by: a stepson, Fred Haines of Covington, LA; a son-in-law, Dick Hatzikian of Temecula, CA; a granddaughter, Pamela Favila of Temecula, CA; a grandson, Robert Crail and sons Max and Miles of Los Angeles, CA; six nieces and nephews and their families and special cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Haines; brothers, Alvin and Elmer Hoesly; sisters, Alvina Hoesly and Hilda Zentner; stepdaughter, Judy Hatzikian; and sister-in-law, Gertrude Hoesly.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus, WI. Pastor Patty Marty officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services at the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus on Friday.
