(Victoria) Jean Wuthrich, age 91 of Monroe died Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Graceland Manor.
She was born May 11, 1923 at Monroe Deaconess Hospital in Monroe to Victor and Florene (Heise) Corson, and spent her childhood in Brandon, WI, Orangeville, IL and Monroe, WI. After moving to Monroe in 1935, the family lived in the house that her great-grandfather constructed in 1859. She was a graduate of Monroe High School, and served in the U.S Navy during World War II. She achieved the rank of Yeoman 1st class, and honorably discharged in October 1945. Jean and Roger Wuthrich were united in marriage May 28, 1947 at St. John's Church in Monroe.
She owned and operated Jean's Dance School from 1946-1960, and also worked for her father who owned Green County Abstract Company. In 1961, Jean worked for Ralph Kundert, Green County Treasurer, and became Deputy Green County Treasurer for Frank Wyss. She was appointed Green County Treasurer in February 1975 to complete Frank Wyss's term of office, and went on to serve in the Treasurer's position until her retirement in 1988. She also served as Associate Treasurer at Turner Hall from 1996-1998
She was a member of St. Omar Chapter #90 Order of Eastern Star, Green County Republican Women, Republican Party of Green County, American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Wisconsin County Treasurer's Association Lifetime Member, and Wisconsin Property Lister's Association. She was a member of the Monroe Turn & Schwing Club for twenty-five years, and served several years as the Junior Tumbling Instructor. Jean was a member of the Universalist Church, a member of the church choir, and a Sunday School teacher.
Jean loved dancing, and after her retirement, taught line-dance at the Monroe Senior Center. She also enjoyed spending time with her sewing, knitting, and crocheting projects.
Surviving is her husband, Roger of Monroe, daughters Candace Walker and Hollie (Dennis) Pickett both of Monroe, grandchildren Dennis (Misty) Pickett of Wylie, Texas, Amanda Field of Monroe, Tashonarae (Ben) Smith of Monroe, six great-grandchildren, cousin Donald Hannah of San Jose, California and cousin Guy Purdy of Aurora, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her mother in 1969, father in 1973, aunt Jeanette Hannah, and cousin Bobby Hannah.
Final arrangements are being handled by Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Per Jean's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A celebration of Jean's life will be held at the American Legion, 1627 12th Avenue, Monroe, Thursday, June 26th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Monroe Clinic Hospice.
