Traffic Accidents: Nov. 27, 2013

Green County Sheriff

MONROE - A Green County deputy and his K-9 partner were involved in a deer vs. vehicle crash late Sunday, Nov. 24. A deer collided with the squad car driven by 27-year-old Cody D. Kanable at 10:50 p.m. on Wis. 11 near Hartwig Road in Sylvester Township. Deputy Kanable had minor injuries from the crash and was treated and released at an area hospital. K-9 Ike was uninjured. The squad sustained severe front-end damage and was driven from the scene. Monroe police assisted in the crash investigation.

On Monday, Nov. 25:

• Katie A. Abraham, 29, Monroe, and Gabrielle Reanna Seward, 19, New Glarus, reported no injuries at 7:41 a.m. from a two-vehicle crash in the intersection of Wis. 81 and County N in Monroe Township. Abraham was stopped in traffic at the stop sign southbound on County N when another southbound vehicle, driven by Seward, slid into the back of Abraham's vehicle, causing both vehicles moderate but non-disabling damage.

• Austin J. Guerin, 22, Fort Collins, Colo., was uninjured in a vehicle vs. traffic sign crash reported at 8:43 a.m. in Spring Grove Township. He reported that a semi pulled out from Wis. 81 to turn westbound on Wis. 11/81, into his lane of travel, so he steered and swerved onto County GG to avoid a crash. In doing so, he hit a traffic sign and post. His vehicle sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.

• No injuries were reported from a two-vehicle crash at 12:05 p.m. on Wis. 69 north of County B in Clarno Township. Dennis L. Holverson, 50, Browntown, was attempting to stop while exiting an Equity Livestock driveway when his truck slid on the ice and into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Michaela T. Nelson, 49, Chadwick, Ill. Holverson was towing a cattle trailer, which sustained very minor damage. His truck was undamaged. Nelson's vehicle sustained moderate front-end damage and was removed from the ditch.

• Emil R. Rufener, 84, Monticello, and his passenger reported no injuries at 3:04 p.m. from a one-vehicle accident in the N6300 block of Washington Road in Washington Township. He was southbound when he began to lose control on the snow-covered road, overcorrected and went into the west ditch. The vehicle sustained moderate front-end damage, and Rufener drove it from the scene.

• Will H. Herman, 16, Argyle, was injured in a rollover accident at 4:01 p.m. in the W8200 block of Puddledock Road in Adams Township. His passenger Mitchell M. Dammen, 15, also of Argyle, reported no injuries. Herman was westbound and negotiating a curve down a hill when his vehicle began to slide. It slid down the hill and hit a cement bridge and continued before rolling onto its side in the east ditch. The vehicle sustained severe passenger-side damage and was towed. Assisting deputies at the scene were the Argyle Fire Department, Argyle EMS and a warden with the Department of Natural Resources.

DARLINGTON - On Monday, Nov. 25:

• Deputies responded to reports of vehicles stuck in ditches at 7:04 a.m. on Wis. 81 in Darlington Township, at 7:27 a.m. on U.S. 151 in Belmont Township, at 8:49 a.m. on Leahy Road in Gratiot Township, at 9:13 a.m. on Wis. 23 in Darlington Township and at 10:05 a.m. on Wis. 81 in Darlington Township.

• No injuries were reported at 7:55 a.m. from a two-vehicle accident on County W in Benton Township. Chelsea R. Block, 18, Winslow, was westbound when she tried to slow down, lost control and crossed the centerline, hitting an eastbound vehicle driven by Michelle M. Snyder, 36, Hazel Green. The vehicles were moderately damaged.

• Jamie G. Hosch and his passenger Ciara R. Kammes, both 22 and of Platteville, reported no injuries at 11:25 a.m. from a one-vehicle accident on West Mound Road in Belmont Township. Hosch was southbound when he met a northbound truck on a curve and moved over to the shoulder, where snow caused him to slide into the ditch. His vehicle went down an embankment, up and over a large stone and through a garden fence. The vehicle was moderately damaged and driven from the scene.

• Tessa M. Cushman, 18, South Wayne, and her passenger Michelle L. Flanagan, 17, Woodford, reported no injuries at 6:55 p.m. from a one-vehicle accident on Mink Farm Road in Wayne Township. Cushman was eastbound when she lost control on a curve, overcorrected, crossed the center line and hit a mailbox and then a utility pole. Her vehicle was moderately damaged and driven from the scene. Assisting a deputy at the scene were the South Wayne Fire Department, South Wayne First Response, Monroe Ambulance and Scenic Rivers Energy Co-op.
