Green County Sheriff

MONROE - No injuries were reported for a two-vehicle accident involving a Monroe Police Department squad car at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2500 block of 5th Street in the City of Monroe. Deputies dispatched to the scene report Monroe Police Officer Mike Mortimer, 44, had located a Ford F150 pick-up parked in the road at the location. The driver of the pick-up, Adam L. Berndt, 43, rural Monroe, was passed out behind the steering wheel and had kept the truck in reverse. Berndt woke up and accelerated, causing his vehicle to back into the front of Mortimer's squad. Berndt was wearing his seatbelt. Mortimer did not have his seatbelt attached, because he had just entered his squad to move it to avoid a collision. The squad vehicle received moderate, front-end damage. Berndt's truck had very minor scratches to the rear bumper. Both vehicles were driven from the scene. Berndt was arrested by Monroe Police Department for first offense driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was also cited for unsafe backing and open intoxicants in the vehicle.

- No injuries were reported from a one-vehicle accident at about 11 a.m. Sunday on Church Road south of Tucker Road in the Town of Washington. Deputies report Tyler S. Hanson, 24, Monroe, was southbound when he observed a car traveling north in the southbound lane. Hanson stated he took evasive action to avoid a collision, and his truck fishtailed and entered the west ditch, causing it to overturn. The vehicle was driven from the scene.

- A vehicle driven by Alan D. Zimmerman, 50, Oregon, and a deer collided at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday in the W2600 block of Wis. 59 in the Town of Decatur. The vehicle received moderate damage and was driven from the scene.

Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - No injuries were reported from a one-vehicle accident at about 3 p.m. Sunday on County G at the intersection of County O north in the Town of Kendall. Deputies report Christine K. Graham, 51, Darlington, was westbound when she failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle got into loose gravel near the shoulder and slid sideways into the stop sign. The vehicle received damage and was driven from the scene.

- Bradley H. Huffman, 56, Machesney Park, Ill., reported hitting a deer at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Wisconsin 81 in the Town of Lamont.
