Thomas L. Casey, age 88 of Monroe, died on Monday, March 29, 2010 at his home. He was born on May 10, 1921, in Dodgeville, the son of James and Katherine (Muedt) Casey. He was a graduate of Belmont High School. After high school, Tom entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1940 to 1945, being discharged as a Staff Sergeant, serving in the campaigns in North Africa, Southern France and the Rhineland. Tom and Ann Louise Read were married on June 20, 1946 in Monroe. He worked for and was manager of Solomon Auto Parts for many years. Tom was a Green County Sheriff Deputy, and on the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department where he was Fire Chief from 1979 to 1985 and currently a Monroe Volunteer Firefighters Alumni. He was a member of the Zilmer Riley American Legion Post No. 84, the Cecil Jones V.F.W. Post # 2312, the Cooties and the 40 & Eight. Tom was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Monroe Council No. 1471.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Louise Casey of Monroe; son, Thomas W. (Carol) Casey of Beaver Dam; daughters, Sharon and Cheryl Casey of Goodyear, Arizona, Cathy Casey of Janesville; granddaughters, Christy (Steve) Mindt, Julie (Corey) Phelps and he was an amazing great-grandfather to "his boys'" Casey Mindt and Owen Phelps; his sisters, Gladys Simmons of Palm Harbor, Florida and Dorothy (Kenneth) Dudley of Delton, Michigan. He is predeceased by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at St. Victor Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Father Michael E. Klarer, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery in Monroe. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established in Tom's memory.
