NEW GLARUS - A Belleville man was transported, with injuries, to a Madison hospital and a New Glarus teen was cited for inattentive driving after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, April 24, in the Town of New Glarus.
Robert D. St. Clair, 63, was listed in fair condition at the University of Wisconsin Hospital as of Wednesday morning.
According to a Green County Sheriff's Department report:
Nicholas H. Gabel, 16, was turning a vehicle around in a private driveway when he backed out in front of St. Clair, who was driving a pick-up truck northbound on County U north of County O.
St. Clair tried to evade Gabel but their vehicles collided. Gabel's vehicle spun around coming to a rest in the ditch. St. Clair's truck slid into the ditch and overturned onto its roof, trapping him inside.
The New Glarus Fire Department extricated St. Clair from the truck, which was severely damaged and towed from the scene.
Gabel reported no injuries and was cited for inattentive driving. His vehicle was moderately damaged and towed from the scene.
Cellphone-use and inexperience were contributing factors to the crash.
New Glarus EMS, Belleville Police and a Wisconsin Conservation Warden also responded to the crash.
