Blanchardville, WI - Mr. Sylvan A. Erickson, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the New Glarus Home. He was born on August 12, 1922 in the Town of York to Albert and Stella (Jordee) Erickson. Sylvan graduated from Blanchardville High School in 1940. On June 9, 1946 he was united in marriage to Betty Lewis. He was a well known Home Talent baseball player. Sylvan farmed in the Town of York all his life and was an award winning registered Holstein breeder. He was a member and past church council president of York Memorial Lutheran Church.

Sylvan is survived by his wife Betty of Blanchardville, WI, sons Paul (Betsy) Erickson of Green Bay, WI and David (Mary) Erickson of Blanchardville, WI, a daughter Susan (Dean) Oscar of Reedsburg, WI, grandchildren Zachary Erickson of Los Angeles, CA, Maxwell (Ashley) Erickson of Prairie Du Chien, WI, Samantha (Michael) Schwartz-Oscar of Moscow, ID, Elliott Oscar of Northville, MI, and Elizabeth Oscar of Reedsburg, WI, a sister-in-law Audrey Erickson of Mt. Horeb, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, Virgil, and Duane, and a sister Betty Lou Hanson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the York Memorial Lutheran Church, N9407 State Road 78, Blanchardville, WI with Pastor Dan Bohlman officiating with burial in the York Memorial Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI.

A memorial fund has been established.
