BRODHEAD - A Monroe man convicted five times of driving while intoxicated was arrested again for the same offense in Brodhead Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Eric Dale Pallesen, 44, faces a Class H felony charge of six-offense DWI in Green County Circuit Court.

Pallesen was arrested after a Brodhead police officer observed a motorcyclist swerving and speeding in the road. The officer stopped Pallesen's red 1968 motorcycle on Wis. 11 near Airport Road.

"I thought the driver of the motorcycle was goofing off," the officer wrote in a report, filed with court records. Upon stopping Pallesen, "I pointed out that he almost got hit by the oncoming traffic just before he pulled over."

Pallesen refused a breathalyzer or blood test. Officers at the scene report he was swaying, slurring his words and had bloodshot, glassy eyes.

Pallesen's signature bond is set at $4,750 and his cash bond at $250, with the conditions that he not drink or go into bars or liquor stores. He is allowed to continue driving, but only to and from his job in Stephenson County.

A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 31.

His DWI record in Wisconsin includes a conviction from 1994 in Walworth County and fourth- and fifth-offense convictions in Rock County from 2002 and 2004.

For his most recent conviction, the fifth-offense DWI in Rock County, he was sentenced to five years of probation, one year in jail and 100 hours of community service. Court records indicate he successfully completed his probation in 2009.
