DAYTON/BELLEVILLE - Sheldon D. Hollis, age 71, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2010 at UW-Hospital in Madison after a long battle with AML. He was born on August 14, 1938 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison to his parents Cloyce and Genevieve (Pernot) Hollis. Sheldon attended East Dayton School and graduated from Belleville High School in 1957. Following high school he served in the United States Navy for two years and was discharged as an E-3. On August 19, 1961 Sheldon was united in marriage to Joan Kaltenberg at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Verona. Sheldon later worked for American Motors. In 1968 they bought the farm his parents owned and together with his wife Joan farmed until 1998, when they sold the cattle. He then worked as a carpenter until retiring in 2006. Sheldon so much enjoyed doing field work on his 86 acre farm; finish carpenter work, his computer, traveling and putting puzzles together.

Sheldon is survived by his wife Joan, three sons Chris D. Hollis, Curtis D. Hollis, and Craig D. (Bonnie) Hollis, four grandchildren Minna, Adam, Amber and Trevor, four brothers Wilbur (Sue) Hollis, Rowan Hollis, Neil Hollis, and David (Joanne) Hollis, a sister Nadine (Don) Ward and his father in law, Norbert Kaltenberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Virginia Dale, and a brother Everett, a sister in law, nephew and his mother in law Helen Kaltenberg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 338 S. Harrison St at the corner of Frederick and School St, Belleville, WI with the Rev. Kenneth Klink officiating with burial in the St. James Cemetery with military honors.

Relatives and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on June 22, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belleville, WI.

Memorials may be made to cancer research for AML.
