NEW GLARUS — A Montana Sex Offender is being held at the Green County Jail awaiting extradition to Montana for an outstanding warrant.
Todd Heitkemper, 44, of Burlington, was arrested in New Glarus after hanging around the village schools on Monday, August 23.
Heitkemper was identified by New Glarus Police after reports were made of a male acting very suspicious near the New Glarus schools the day before. Heitkemper, listed on the National Sex Offender Registry, had an active warrant in Montana. The warrant only extended to states west of the Mississippi. New Glarus Police contacted agencies in the State of Montana, including the Montana Department of Justice, which then extended the warrant to all 50 states.
Heitkemper was placed on the Sex Offender Registry in 2003, listed as a level 2 offender with moderate risk to reoffend. According to the National Sex Offender Registry, Heitkemper’s original charge involved a 3-year-old male victim. He was sentenced to 45 months in prison on Sept. 3, 2003 and is listed on the registry as Non-Compliant Registrant, Non-Compliant/Address Verification Overdue, Transient in Montana.
New Glarus Police took Heitkemper into custody without incident Aug. 23 in the 1300 block of Wis. Highway 69 and was transported to the Green County Jail.
