MONROE - Samuel (Bart) Pickett, age 85 of Monroe, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Select Specialty Hospital, Madison, following a long illness. Bart was born in Monroe, Wisconsin on August 13, 1922, the son of Samuel H. and Isabelle (Dolan) Pickett. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1940 and worked at the Goetz Theater for several years before joining Montgomery Ward in Monroe as an assistant store manager until its closing. He then worked for Montgomery Ward in Freeport, Illinois for 35 years until retirement.
Bart was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. He enjoyed his family, watching the Packers, having breakfast with his friends, and golf trips to Arkansas for over 20 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (Ray) Podgorski of Janesville; son, Gerald C. (Karen) Pickett of Oconomowoc; grandchildren, Terry, Andy and Mike Pickett, Samantha and Jennifer Podgorski; a future great-granddaughter, Leanne.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at St. Victor Catholic Church, Monroe. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME in Monroe and from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Bart's name.
He was a wonderful father, husband and father-in-law and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
