Ruth Luescher

NEW GLARUS - Ruth Luescher, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born on September 5, 1932 in Dotzigen, Canton Bern, Switzerland to her parents, Paul Lehmann and Klara Lehmann-Haller. When Ruth was two they moved to Rothrist, Aargau to live in her grandfather's house. In 1963, Ruth immigrated to the United States to work for Karl Hoffman at the Alpine Café in New Glarus. It was in New Glarus where she met an Aargauer, Karl Luescher. Ruth and Karl were married on February 15, 1964 at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.

Ruth worked at the Alpine Café, ran an ice cream parlor, and cooked at the Glarner Stube along with farming with her husband until 1998. Ruth had been involved with the production of the Wilhelm Tell play since 1964. Knitting was a favorite pastime. She was also a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ.

She is survived by: her son, Roland Luescher (fiancée Wendy Bellrichard and children Alexander, Kristopher, and Oliver) of Belleville; two daughters, Maya Luescher of New Glarus and Verena (Jim) Schwoerer of Monticello; grandsons, Derek and Karl; a brother, Hansrudi (Ruth Lehmann-Kaser) Lehmann, Switzerland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl in 2000 and her father in 1980 and mother in 1993.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 5th Ave., New Glarus, Rev. Patty Marty officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI.

The family suggests memorials to the Monroe Clinic Hospice.
