Ruby M. Leinberger, age 94, of Darlington, WI, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. She was born May 6, 1920 in Wiota Township in Lafayette County, WI, the daughter of Peter and Gena (Torkelson) Komprood. Ruby was baptized and confirmed at West Wiota Lutheran Church. Ruby was united in marriage to Donald "Bill" Leinberger on April 3, 1943 at Wiota Lutheran Church Parsonage. They lived and farmed in the Darlington and Lamont areas for 25 years before moving into Darlington in 1967. Ruby babysat for many years both on the farm and in Darlington.
Ruby is survived by three children: Diane (Francis) Smith of Mineral Point, WI, Donald Leinberger of rural Argyle, WI, and Richard (Colleen) Leinberger of Darlington; four grandchildren: Cheryl (Tom) Hartwig, Lynn Zimmerman, Robert "Bubba"Smith, and Michael (Amy) Smith; and six great-grandchildren: Mitchell and Ryley Hartwig, Levi Zimmerman, Kennedy Byous, Zachary Smith, and Holden Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband: Donald on July 23, 2000; two brothers: John and Roy Komprood; and two sisters: her twin sister, Ruth as a child and Leona Vinger in June of 2003.
Ruby was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington, a former Sunday School Teacher, and a member of its Women of ELCA, where she quilted with the ladies for many years. She was also a member of Mount Pleasant Homemakers. Ruby was proud of her Norwegian Heritage and will be remembered for her homemade lefse, which she shared with many. She also enjoyed baking cookies and buns, and telling Ole and Lena jokes. Ruby loved her family and was always glad to have them come home.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 1, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 1302 Clay Street in Darlington with Rev. Marsha Swenson officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Main Street in Darlington.
