Rosie W. Krebs, age 92, of Monroe, passed on to be with the Lord on March 14, 2011. She was born in a rural log cabin on November 13, 1918 in Woodford, WI, the daughter of Randall and Rose (Boelk) Gutzmer.
Rosie was quite a character and had many memories of her youth. Conversations with her could range from memories of times when ice cream cost a dime to trudging to school two miles each way in blizzard conditions. Only when the family could afford a horse and buggy did the trip become bearable. Considering these experiences, her eighth grade education would be more than most of us could achieve.
At a Browntown dance it was love at first sight when she met her tall handsome prince. Frederick R. Krebs and Rosie dated for four years and married on Mother's Day, May 8, 1938. They owned and operated Franklin Cheese for 26 years. Working and living there, they raised their five children. In 1977 they started a new journey by moving into Monroe where Rosie worked at Gasthaus Motel.
Rosie had many hobbies which included crocheting tablecloths for family and friends, collecting bells, plates, and knickknacks, reading romance novels, walking, gardening, and playing Euchre with her card club. She attended Hope Evangelical Church and St. John's United Church of Christ. She was a member of the Moose Lodge 599 and Eastern Star for over 50 years. Her most treasured place was her picture room where she hung pictures of her fondest memories of her family and her friends.
Rosie's legacy of generosity, caring, and love will survive indefinitely as she is survived by her sister Hattie Lovelace (Monroe), daughter, Brenda Leuzinger (Monroe), three sons, Michael (Mary Ann) Krebs (Monroe), Kenneth (Lillian) Krebs (Monroe), and Mark (Gail) Krebs (Monroe), 61+grand, great, and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frederick, sisters, Freida and Dorothy, brothers, Alfred, Leo, Frank, and William, and her beloved daughter Patricia, 3 grandchildren, Shirley, Steven, & Marshall Krebs, and 1 great-grandson Joshua Krebs.
"I thank my children, their spouses, and many others for all the help they have given me over the years. A special thank you to my daughter, Brenda and everyone else who was always by my side. I love You all and wish you all the best."
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Hope Evangelical Free Church at 11:00 a.m with Pastor Rick Hayworth officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Hope Evangelical Church 2902 - 13th Street in Monroe. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
A memorial fund is being established in Rosie's memory.
