Robert D. Zimmerman age 87 of Monroe, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Bob was born January 9, 1928 in Orangeville, IL, the son of Myron and Myrtle "Faye" (Miller) Zimmerman. He graduated from Juda High School in 1945 and married Carole R. (Wald) Zimmerman on June 19, 1949 at St. John's United Church of Christ. Bob farmed in the Monroe, Juda, and Brodhead areas for several years. He worked as a serviceman for Surge Dairy Equipment for many years until retiring. Following his retirement he was employed at Seventh Avenue outlet for five years. He was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ where he was an usher and a past president of the church council. He enjoyed volunteering as a driver for Green County Human Services for 13 years. He loved the outdoors as he was a longtime deer hunter, was an avid reader, and one of his favorite hobbies was woodcraft.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carole Zimmerman of Monroe; seven children, Gary Zimmerman of Janesville, Duane (Crystal) Zimmerman of Monroe, Darlene (Eugene) Meyers of Darlington, Janet (Terry Anderson) Zimmerman of Tucson, AZ, Lois (Greg) Weier of Dodgeville, Keith (Jill) Zimmerman of Indianapolis, IN, and Alan (Wendy) Zimmerman of Oregon, WI; 21 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a sister, Hollis (Ed) Smith of Colorado; and a sister-in-law, Georgia Zimmerman of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joyce Theiler; and two brothers, Lamont and Darrell Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Robert's name.
