Robert D. "Bob" Burgess, age 89 of rural Shullsburg, WI passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at his home. He was born on August 24, 1926 in Seymour Township the son of Henry and Marie (Wiech) Burgess. Bob graduated from Darlington High School in 1944 and later completed an Agriculture short course at UW-Madison. Bob grew up on the Burgess family farm in Seymour Township and farmed there until being drafted into the United States Army in 1952. He served as a Combat Engineer during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1954. Bob returned to farming on the Burgess homestead and was united in marriage to Rose Scheidegger on October 29, 1955 in Monroe, WI.

Bob is survived by his wife Rose at home; five children: Steve (Kathy) Burgess of Duluth MN, Karen Williams of Watertown WI, Donna (Pat) Burns of La Crosse WI, Tim (Brenda) Burgess of rural Shullsburg WI, and Kory (Tim) Douglas of rural Darlington WI; one sister: Marilyn Burgess of Eau Claire WI; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Norma Burgess.

In addition to raising livestock, Bob was a producer of Wisconsin Certified Seed. Bob was the Seymour Township Chairman up until the time of his passing; a total of 60 years. He was a member of the Lafayette County Board for ten years. He was a member of Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214. Exactly one year prior to his passing, Bob proudly joined fellow veterans on a 2014 Badger Honor Flight to Washington DC. First and foremost, Bob "Pa" was a family man and treasured his time with family.

A funeral Service will be held Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 1:30 P.M. at First Baptist Church (15691 County Road K, Darlington) with Rev. Curt Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery with full military honors. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 24th 2015 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the church and one hour prior to services on Sunday.
