Richard F. Glendenning, age 75 of Monroe, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 2, 2014. He was born on April 23, 1938 in rural Shullsburg, the son of Frederick and Bertha (Barth) Glendenning. He was a graduate of Shullsburg High School, U.W. Platteville and did his graduate studies at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Dick and Donna Ensch were married on December 19, 1960 in Platteville.
He taught school at Cambridge Jr. High School, Bloomington High School and Monroe High School from 1965 to 1997. He coached basketball for 17 years, was assistant football coach for 22 years and coached track for 51 years, 24 years as head coach. Dick was inducted into the Wisconsin Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2011.
Dick touched the lives of many students and athletes that he was fortunate to come into contact with, which extended beyond his teaching years up until his last year of coaching track in 2013. Dick was able to develop special relationships with the athletes he coached and coaches he worked with, developing lifelong friendships. He was passionate about curling and was a member of the Monroe Curling Club for many years. He enjoyed spending summers with Donna at their lake home in Holcombe, WI and enjoyed fishing and having family and friends visit them there.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of Monroe; sons, Mark (Patricia) Glendenning of Green Bay, Brent (Amy) Glendenning of De Forest; daughter, Ann (John) Malooly of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren, Caitlin, Tony and Daniel Glendenning and Erin, Grace Malooly. He is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Homer.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Dr., Monroe, with Pastor Eric Erickson officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
