Richard "Dick" Nielon Johnson

Richard "Dick" Nielon Johnson, age 84 of rural Blanchardville died on Tuesday morning, November 17, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 14, 1931 in rural Blanchardville to Hans and Goldie (Kammerud) Johnson. He grew up in rural Blanchardville, on the family farm, working with his family. He went to the Bainbridge rural school. Dick farmed for several years until he volunteered for the US Army during the Korean Conflict where he served in Korea and received a Purple Heart. He was married to Sarah Marie Gabioud on April 22, 1953 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blanchardville. They farmed together in rural Blanchardville all of their married lives. Richard also worked for Argyle Industries for several years and then drove school bus for the Pecatonica School District. He was a past member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blanchardville and a current member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hollandale. He was also a member of the Blanchardville Dobson-Johnson American Legion Post #142. Richard spent his life farming, visiting with friends and telling stories. He enjoyed deer hunting with his sons and was an avid Packer fan. He loved spending time with his family and was a devoted grandfather.

Dick is survived by three sons, Jim (Nancy) Johnson of Blanchardville, Jeff (Kathy) Johnson of Verona, and Steve Johnson of Verona; six grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Angle of Baraboo, Shana (Regan) Johnson Berschauer of Olympia, WA, Dani (Jeremy) McPerson of Poynette, Amanda Johnson of Verona, and Brittney Johnson and Bradley Johnson of Madison; three great-grandchildren, Tessa and Tyler Angle and Reid Berschauer; and four sisters, Mayona Lewis of Neillsville, Nancy (Doug) Caldwell of Blanchardville, Connie (Dennis) Relihan of Argyle, and Vernalee Dorsey of Argyle. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sarah who died on July 23, 2006; and two brothers, Mack and Ben Johnson.

A visitation for Dick Johnson will be held on Thursday evening, November 19, 2015 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 3:45 PM at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville, and from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday at the church. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hollandale. Fr. Thomas Gillespie will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Blanchardville with Veteran's honors by the Dobson-Johnson American Legion Post and the United States Army. A funeral lunch will follow at the church.
