He was greeted at the gates of heaven by his mother, father and twin sons Richard and Ronald, among many other friends and loved ones.

Richard farmed for 35 years in Jefferson Township. He served as the sexton since 1986 for the Calvary cemetery in Monroe. Richard was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, Monroe where at one time he served as maintenance supervisor for the church and School.

Richard's true passion and devotion was being actively involved in the Knights of Columbus where he was a member of Supreme Advocate Harold Lamboley Council 1471, Monroe since 1977, and was a member of the Black Hawk Assembly 2464, which he was instrumental in forming, and served as area coordinator. He was appointed to serve on a First Degree Team, Second Degree Team, Third Degree Team and Fourth Degree Team for many years. From 1996 to 2006 he was elected to state warden, state advocate, state treasurer, state secretary and state deputy on two separate occasions where his slogan was "Together We Will." Richard was always willing to step in and lend a helping hand no matter the task or occasion; he instilled his humble nature in all seven of his children.

Throughout the years he was actively involved in the council's youth contests, charity raffle chairman, concessions and scholarship committees, and St. Patrick's Day Dinner. Richard was also very active in his community, FFA, 4-H and served as poultry superintendent at the Green County Fair, county livestock judging coach, county delegate to the Wisconsin Conservation Congress and Tri-State Breeders Cooperative, he loved fast pitch softball and enjoyed being a part of the WIAA softball and baseball world as an umpire, Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon, Tootsie Roll Driver, and the Apostolate to the Handicapped program. He graduated from University of Wisconsin Madison in 1960.

In the summer months you could find Dad tending to the cemetery by day and umpiring by night where he would say "I get paid for my eyesight." He cherished giving his grandkids rides on the ranger and finding cookies behind their ears. In the fall and winter months you could find him deer hunting, trapping and coon hunting. He shared his love and passion for wildlife and trapping by volunteering his time to education elementary classes about furs, trapping and the outdoors.

Dad was known for his quick wit, generous heart and his infectious laugh and smile. Dad always rooted for the underdog and made a point of treating everyone with the same respect and regard as he wanted to be treated. Although he was taken too soon, we children are blessed with the days we had with our father in the end and will cherish every moment in our hearts. He was the glue that kept the family pieces together and he will be truly missed. And yes Dad we will always remember what our last name is...

The family would like to personally thank the UW Madison hospital staff for their support and kind hearts in the final days shared with our dad.

In lieu of flowers you may make donations to Dad's memorial.
