BRODHEAD - Ralph A. Whitehead, age 84, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Mercy Hospital Trauma Center, Janesville, WI. He was born on June 23, 1927 in Brodhead, WI, the son of Percy and Hulda (Anderson) Whitehead. He married Hazel Moe on October 20, 1945 in Brodhead.
Ralph owned and operated the Whitehead Dairy for 15 years, and then worked for Gardner Bakery in Janesville for 18 years. After retiring from the bakery, he drove a school bus and managed the Super Car Wash in Brodhead for 15 years. Ralph was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead and loved sports, especially the Milwaukee Brewers.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hazel (Moe); three children, Richard (Carla) Whitehead, Durand, IL, Sharon (David) Goecks-Drake, Janesville, WI, Phillip (Lisa) Whitehead, Milton, WI; seven grandchildren, Randy (Diane) Whitehead, Tari (Kevin) Metz, Jeffrey (Susie) Goecks, Garrett, Evan, Braeden, and Kaelyn Whitehead;, eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lavina Felber, Bellingham, WA, and Ruth Baker, Denison, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Clifford Whitehead, and a grandson, Christopher Goecks.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead, with Pastor Peder Johanson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI.
