Green County Sheriff

MONROE - Melyssa D. Caldwell, 20, Brodhead, was arrested on a probation warrant issued by the Department of Corrections after deputies responded at 10:12 a.m. to a reported disturbance at a residence in the W300 block of Conifer Court, Town of Decatur. She was booked at the county jail.



New Glarus Police

NEW GLARUS - On Monday, Sept. 18:

• Theft was reported at 2:13 p.m. in the area of 5th Avenue and 2nd Street.

• A violation of a temporary restraining order was reported at 9:48 p.m. in the 500 block of 1st Street.

• Police assisted the Green County Sheriff's Office at 11:59 p.m. with traffic control for an active barn fire in the Town of Brooklyn. While conducting traffic control, police stopped a vehicle to allow firetrucks through and discovered the occupants and driver had been using suspected drugs. Green County deputies arrived and took over the investigation.

On Tuesday, Sept. 19:

• Police were dispatched at 1:29 p.m. to the 400 block of 2nd Street for a couple of subjects being disorderly. It was verbal in nature and fit the classification of a domestic dispute. Reports were forwarded to the District Attroney's Office for review.

• Police responded at 3:56 p.m. to the 10 block of 6th Avenue for a complaint of a vehicle being parked in a spot longer than 30 minutes. The vehicle was gone upon police arrival.

• Kadyn C. Mason, 18, Orfordville, was cited for illegal window tint at 6:28 p.m. on Wisconsin 69 at 11th Avenue.

• Police assisted Belleville police at 9:57 p.m. with a traffic stop in the N9400 block of Wis. 92.

• Police assisted Belleville police at 10:45 p.m. with a subject who was lying on the ground in the 30 block of River Street. The subject was found to be OK and was fishing.

On Wednesday:

• Police responded to a 911 hang-up at 10:57 a.m. in the 400 block of Durst Road. Everything was fine.

• Chandra M. Rai, 31, Madison, was cited for illegal window tint at 1 p.m. in the 700 block of Wis. 69.

• Conrad T. Lawrence, 24, Fitchburg, was cited for failing to wear a seatbelt, driving without vehicle insurance and having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle at 3:43 p.m. on 6th Avenue at Railroad Street.

• A debit card was found and turned over to police at 8:25 p.m. The owner was located and the debit card returned.

On Thursday:

• Police responded at 1:43 p.m. to the 500 block of 14th Avenue to check the welfare of a person who sent a concerning email. Everything was fine.

• An illegally parked vehicle was reported at 12:52 p.m. in the 100 block of 5th Avenue. Police located the owner, and the vehicle was removed.

• Police assisted a citizen who had locked their keys in their vehicle at 3:16 p.m. in the 1700 block of 2nd Street.

• Police warned two juveniles for riding double on a bicycle in the 800 block of 2nd Street at 3:47 p.m.

• Tyler T. Neuenschwander, 22, New Glarus, was cited for failing to wear a seatbelt and for driving without vehicle insurance at 4:16 p.m. on Wis. 69 at 6th Avenue.

• A missing woman was reported at 11:17 p.m. in the 500 block of 1st Street. Police located her in the 1100 block of Wis. 69 and she was reunited with family and friends.

On Friday:

• Items, including a firearm, were reported stolen from two unlocked vehicles in the 1000 block of Tower Circle at 9:13 a.m.

• Police received a complaint at 11:02 a.m. of a vehicle that had not moved for a while in the 300 block of 5th Avenue and may be broke. Police located the owner, and the vehicle was removed.

• A theft from an unlocked vehicle in the 1100 block of 8th Street was reported at 2:16 p.m.

• A theft from an unlocked vehicle in the 800 block of 10th Avenue was reported at 4:01 p.m.

• A bag of white powder was reported at 4:26 p.m. in the 1400 block of Wis. 69. Police tested the powder. It was cocaine.

• At 9:58 p.m., police made contact with a man in the beer tent at Oktoberfest who was creating disturbances and whom citizens were complaining about. The man agreed it was time for him to go home and he left without incident.

• A small women's purse containing a cellphone was found at 11:35 p.m. at 1st Street and 6th Avenue. The owner was later located and the items returned.

On Saturday:

• A vehicle was cited for parking in a No Parking zone in front of the elementary school in the 1400 block of 2nd Street. The vehicle was parked right next to the "No Parking" sign and halfway into the roadway, obstructing traffic.

• A vehicle was cited for parking in a No Parking zone during a special event in the 10 block of 5th Avenue.

• Two parking citations were issued in the 400 block of 2nd Street.

• Twelve motorcycles were cited for parking in a No Parking zone during a special event in the 10 block of 5th Avenue.

• Three vehicles were cited for parking in a No Parking zone during a special event in the 10 block of 5th Avenue.

• A cellphone was reported lost in the 500 block of 1st Street at 12:21 a.m.

• A possible stolen vehicle from a residence in the village was reported at 12:50 a.m. It was later found that a family member had used the vehicle without the other family members knowing about it. The vehicle was never stolen.

• Police investigated a complaint of subjects smoking marijuana at 12:51 a.m. in the 400 block of 2nd Street.

• Police made contact at 1 a.m. with subjects carrying two flower arrangements and a pumpkin. The items were seized and placed back in the Oktoberfest tent.

• Police made contact at 2:26 a.m. with subjects carrying a traffic cone from the downtown area. The traffic cone was placed back where it was supposed to be.

• A stop sign lying in the grass at 1st Street and 7th Avenue was reported at 7:45 a.m. Police notified the village public works department to reinstall the stop sign at its proper location.

• Police assisted the Green County Sheriff's Office at 1:51 p.m. in the Town of Exeter with locating loose horses that posed a danger to passing traffic.

• Police received a complaint at 5:28 p.m. of a vehicle parked in a No Parking zone during a special event in the 100 block of 6th Avenue. The vehicle was cited.

• A cellphone was found at 5:47 p.m. on 2nd Street.

• Ashley M. Holewinski, 32, Monticello, was cited for driving with a suspended license and no vehicle insurance at 7:05 p.m. in the 1500 block of Wis. 69.

• An orange traffic cone was reported stolen at 11:29 p.m. from the area of 6th Avenue at 1st Street.

On Sunday:

• Police responded to a complaint at 12:24 a.m. of vehicles parked in a No Parking zone in the 10 block of 5th Avenue. Three vehicles were cited.

• Police took a report of a lost purse and cellphone left behind in the 500 block of 1st Street. If anyone has found property, contact New Glarus police at 608-527-2145.

• Aaron M. De Smet, 37, Belleville, was cited for urinating in public at 12:09 a.m. in the 100 block of 6th Avenue.

• Police checked the welfare of a subject in the 10 block of 11th Avenue at 1:09 a.m. The subject was released to family members.

• A found kitten was reported at 9:57 a.m. in the 10 block of 6th Avenue. It was returned to its owner.

• Police received a phone that was found in the 500 block of 1st Street at 1:35 p.m. It was returned to its owner.

• An injured or sick bird found at Village Park was turned over to police at 3:15 p.m.

• Police received a complaint of an illegally parked vehicle at 3:51 p.m. in the 100 block of 5th Avenue. The vehicle was cited.

• Smoke coming from a storm drain in the 500 block of Railroad Street was reported at 4 p.m. It appeared that some leaves in the drain started on fire from a cigarette. The fire extinguished itself.

• Police received several complaints at 4:08 p.m. of a suspicious person who was carrying suspicious items in the Oktoberfest area. Police made contact with the person, and everything checked out. No further action was taken.

• A phone found in the area of Oktoberfest at 4:33 p.m. was returned to its owner.

• A basketball rim that had been removed from a basketball court backboard at Village Park was turned over to police at 4:45 p.m. A citizen reporting catching some juveniles walking down the street with the rim and net.

• A lawn chair was reported found at 4:49 p.m. on the premises of a local business in the area of 11th Avenue and Railroad Street.

• Police were requested at 6:30 p.m. to check on a male and female that appeared to be arguing on 5th Avenue at 1st Street. Everything was found to be OK. Both subjects left with friends.

• A cellphone was reported lost at 8:22 p.m. in the Oktoberfest festival grounds.

On Monday:

• Police located a vehicle parked in a driveway with its rear sliding door standing wide open at 12:04 a.m. The vehicle was secured and the owner located later in the day.

• Police on patrol came upon a vehicle partially parked in the street with its lights on at 12:11 a.m. and made contact with the occupants. Everything appeared to be OK.
