Darlington Police

DARLINGTON - Marvin Amaya-Mendez, 26, Darlington, was arrested on a second-offense charge of driving while intoxicated at about 2:05 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, on East Cornelia Street. He was also cited for driving with a revoked license.

• Donald E. Heitter, 54, Prospect Heights, Ill., was arrested on a first-offense charge of driving while intoxicated at about 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, after he drove to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department to visit a jail inmate. He was released pending court.



Monroe Police

MONROE - On Thursday, Sept. 5:

• The theft of a BMX-style bike from a yard in front of an apartment complex in the 700 block of 12th Avenue was reported at 6:08 a.m. The bike had not been locked up.

• An envelope containing photos was reported lost in the downtown area at 11:35 a.m. If found, bring to the police station or call dispatch at 608-329-2400.

• A 16-year-old girl was cited for possession of tobacco products at 12:33 p.m. at Monroe High School.

• Police were called at 1:46 p.m. to a dispute between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in the 1000 block of 18th Avenue. No one was cited or arrested.

• Harassment via Craigslist and text messaging was reported at 2:11 p.m. between a landlord and the boyfriend of a former tenant in the 800 block of 6th Street. No one was cited or arrested.

• The theft of a bike from the front yard of a residence in the 800 block of 8th Street was reported at 6:06 p.m. The bike had not been locked up.

On Friday, Sept. 6:

• Police were dispatched at 8:52 a.m. to a 911 hangup tracked to the area of Walmart, 300 6th Ave. W. No emergency was located.

• A domestic dispute was reported by a neighbor at 9:10 a.m. in the 1700 block of 30th Avenue. The neighbor heard a couple yelling. The couple told police their argument was verbal, not physical. No one was cited or arrested.

• A cellphone was found in the area of 17th Avenue at 21st Street and brought at 12:19 p.m. to the police station, where it can be claimed.

On Saturday, Sept. 7:

• An officer on patrol at 12:41 a.m. noticed a pop-up camper parked along the street in the 300 block of North 12th Avenue, in violation of city code. A warning notice was left on the vehicle.

• Police responded at 3:17 a.m. to a dispute between people outside a tavern in the 1300 block of 17th Street. One officer saw a man wielding a metal baseball bat, but in the end the dispute was of the "he said, she said" type and no one was cited or arrested.

• A custody dispute was reported at 9:21 a.m. in the 2200 block of 9th Street. A man came to pick up his children at a residence, but they didn't come out. He was referred to his attorney.

• Keys were reported lost at 9:52 a.m. somewhere around 17th Avenue at 12th Street.

• A person in the 800 block of 11th Avenue was warned for illegal burning after a neighbor complained at 12:29 p.m. about yard waste being burned.

• Police were dispatched to a 911 pocket dial at 12:53 p.m. in the 700 block of 20th Avenue. There was no emergency.

• A dog owner was warned for allowing two dogs to roam unleashed after a resident in the 1200 block of 23rd Street reported finding the dogs in the yard at 1:44 p.m.

• Loud music was reported at 4:37 p.m. by a neighbor in the 1600 block of 11th Street. An officer dispatched to the area did not hear any music or noise but spoke anyway with the person allegedly responsible for it.

• A tenant in an apartment building in the 2700 block of 8th 1/2 Street complained about loud noise coming from a neighboring apartment at 8:11 p.m. The people there were having a birthday party. Police warned them to keep it down.

• Keys were reported lost at 8:34 p.m. somewhere west of the parking ramp downtown.

• People shooting off fireworks on the south end of town were reported at 9:05 p.m. An officer could hear the fireworks but did not locate the source.

On Sunday, Sept. 8:

• An extremely intoxicated 27-year-old man from South Wayne was reported at 12:41 a.m. in the 1700 block of 12th Street. Police stayed with him until a responsible person came to get him.
