MONROE - On Thursday, Oct. 17:
Police were dispatched at 7:39 a.m. to the 800 block of 13th Avenue for a death investigation. An elderly man had died, likely of natural causes.
A 13-year-old Monroe boy will be referred to Juvenile Intake for truancy, after the offense was reported at 11:01 a.m. at Monroe Middle School.
An anonymous caller at 1:04 p.m. was concerned about a small dog chained up outside in the 1200 block of 12th Street. Police checked on the dog, which did not appear in distress, and talked with its owner.
Jason L. Svendsen, 32, New Glarus, was arrested at his place of employment in the 2900 block of 9th Avenue at 1:30 p.m., after the Dane County Sheriff's Department asked Monroe police to arrest him on a Dane County warrant for burglary. Svendsen was jailed.
A runaway girl was reported at 5:16 p.m. from the 800 block of 6th Street. She was later located.

MONROE - Scott R. Walters, 41, Browntown, was arrested on a first-offense charge of driving while intoxicated after deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash in the N2300 block of Bethel Road in Clarno Township at 1:25 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17. Walters was southbound, north of Patterson Road, when he lost control on a curve. The vehicle veered into the ditch and collided with a driveway embankment. He attempted to drive away from the accident scene, but the vehicle was stuck. He was uninjured. The vehicle was moderately damaged and towed. Walters was also cited for driving too fast for conditions, not wearing a seatbelt, failing to notify police of the crash and driving with a prohibited blood-alcohol concentration. He was released pending court.

DARLINGTON - On Thursday, Oct. 17:
Cody C. Dorr, 20, Belmont, was arrested on a probation hold at 12:20 a.m. when deputies assisted Platteville police with locating a subject on Dawn Vista in Belmont. He was jailed.
UW-Platteville Police assisted deputies at 4:10 a.m. with removing a large animal carcass on U.S. 151 in Kendall Township.
Animal neglect was reported at 3:10 p.m. on Stump Grove Road in Shullsburg Township.
