Philip A. "Wiley" Curran, age 67 of Monroe, died Thursday, November 21, 2013 at his home. Phil was born June 11, 1946 in Beloit WI, the son of Daniel and Geraldine (Adair) Curran. He was raised in Monroe and attended Monroe High School before entering the U.S. Marine Corp. He served with the Third Reconnaissance Battalion in Vietnam and received specialized training as a Marine scubadiver in Okinawa, Japan. Following his honorable discharge, Phil married Marilyn Eicksteadt on August 31, 1968 in Belvidere, IL. They lived in Marengo, IL for 25 years where Phil worked at Warner Electric/Dana Corp for 20 years. They moved to Monroe in 2000. Phil enjoyed wintering in Florida for nine years. He was an avid fisherman who collected antique fishing equipment for the past 40 years. He also a self taught artist who spent many hours learning his craft. His talents included restoring classic cars, painting murals on trucks and motorcycles, painting in acrylic, and sketching in pencil and chalk. Most recently, Phil was learning the art of making stained glass.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Curran of Monroe; a son, Mark (Sandy) Curran of Marengo, IL; a brother, Michael (Diane) Curran of Cary, IL; two half-brothers, Jim Curran of Browntown, and Jon Curran of Gratiot; several nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Sophie. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his half-sister, Bonnie.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Friends and family are invited to Sinners, 1428 17th Street, Monroe, following the service.
