Paul R. Bevars, age 77 of Monroe died unexpectedly on Monday, January 17, 2011 at his home.
Paul was born April 5, 1933 in Anderson, Indiana, the son of Homer and Vivian (Collins) Bevars. He graduated from Bellflower, IL High School and served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1970 he moved to Brodhead where he farmed in Decatur/Sylvester Township for many years. Paul also was employed as a mechanic for Carter and Gruenewald, Inc. in Juda for 25 years. He most recently worked as a realtor for Hedeman Real Estate and was employed at the Charlton Group.
He married Loretta Hill on May 2, 1987 at the Orangeville United Methodist Church.
Paul is survived by his wife, Loretta Bevars of Monroe; five children, Jo Ann (Steve) Arn, Gary (Terri) Bevars, all of Brodhead, Bob Bevars of Lodi, WI, Janice Bevars of Naples, FL, Bruce (Janelle) Bevars of Fort Worth, TX; three step-sons, Howard (Amy) Rowley of Winslow, IL, Steve (Jamie) Rowley of Monroe, Kevin Hendrickson of Elgin, IL; 14 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Phillip (Barbara) Harland of Chenoa, IL; and a sister, Carolyn (Gerald) Donoho of Salem, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Lester Harland; step-daughter, Shelley Williams; step-grandson, James Rowley; and a brother, David Harland.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the Monroe Bible Church. Pastor Tom Schubring will officiate with interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. A memorial fund will be established in Paul's name.
