Orlan "Gus" Bahn age 84 of Monroe, Wisconsin formerly of Belleville, passed away Saturday evening, March 17, 2012 at St. Clare Friedensheim Assisted Living facility. Gus was born in Monroe on October 28, 1927, the son of Albert & Catherine (Grant) Bahn. He attended Monroe Schools and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. After having completed his service in Okinawa, Japan, Gus was honorably discharged in June 1947.

Orlan married Dorothy Butts on November 2, 1947 at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe. Gus and Dorothy farmed for 25 years in Jordan, Washington, & Adams Townships. They sold their farm and moved to Monroe in 1972, where they started Bahn Trucking. Gus hauled livestock for 15 years. He later worked as a Monroe Taxi driver for 7 years, and then delivered Monroe Truck vehicles for 5 years before retiring. He was a member of Adams Lutheran Church.

Gus enjoyed playing euchre, watching the Packers, following the latest sports activities and accomplishments of his great-grandchildren, and talking about farming or trucking with anyone who was willing to listen. Some of his fondest memories were the many adventures he shared with his grandsons, and the time he was able to spend with their families and with the families of the Leo and Kay Butts clan. Gus had a wonderful sense of humor and a great work ethic. He thought that there was no better way for a person to use their time, and was disappointed when he could no longer work because of health issues.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce (David) Van Gompel of Fitchburg; two grandsons, Scott (Julie) Klassy of Mt Horeb, and Jason (Tricia) Jelle of Belleville; 6 great grandchildren, Zachery, Travis, & Garrett Klassy, Ryne Ferguson, and Bryson & Regyn Jelle; a brother, Wayne Bahn of Freeport, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gus was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Dorothy; and by two brothers, Calvin & Howard Bahn.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Gus' name.

The family would like to thank the care givers of St. Clare Friedensheim and the wonderful nurses of Monroe Hospice. With special thanks to brother Wayne for all of the help he provided to Gus, and for just being there to talk to.
