Olga H. (Heyn) Preston, age 98 of Monroe, died Friday, March 17, 2017 at her home. Olga was born on October 29, 1918 in Feschel, Canton of Valais, Switzerland, the daughter of Benjamin and Walburga (Michlig) Meichtry. She emigrated to Green County with her parents and older sister, Elsa, in 1921. She graduated from St. Victor grade school in 1932 and Monroe High School in 1936. Olga married Julius "Buck" Heyn in April, 1942. He preceded her in death in April, 1986. She married Bob Preston in June, 1988 and he died in September, 2008. Olga worked for many years at Parker Pen in Janesville and retired from the USDA in Madison in 1980. Olga and Bob wintered in Sebring, Florida from 1988 until 2004. She was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed reading, traveling, knitting, crocheting, playing cards and Mahjongg.
She is survived by a sister, Therese Aebly Snyder of Monroe; step-children, Gary (Evie) Preston of Juda, and Bobette Preston of Brodhead; a step son-in-law, Robert Severson Sr. of Monroe; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Benkert (Josef), Mary Ann Blum (Delbert), and Elsa Nussbaum (Jack Ruef and John Nussbaum); a brother, Ted Meichtry (Betty); and a step-daughter, Helen Severson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Bakke officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Olga's name. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net.
