MONROE - Mr. Odeen C. Johnson, age 79, of Monroe passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at the Monroe Manor. He was born on April 13, 1930 in Whitehall, WI, to his parents, Oscar and Cora (Thompson) Johnson. Odeen graduated from Taylor High School in 1948. Following high school he entered service in the U.S. Army. Odeen was stationed in occupied Japan as part of an honor guard detail for General Douglas MacArthur. On May 24, 1953 Odeen was united in marriage to the former Jeanette Back at the North Beaver Creek First Lutheran Church. He worked as a lithographer for Johnson Printing in Eau Claire and other printing companies in Minneapolis. Following his retirement in 1991 he worked at the Minneapolis Auto Auction for 10 years.
He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, WI and House of Hope in New Hope, MN. He was also very proud of his Norwegian heritage and membership in the Sons of Norway.
Odeen is survived by his son, Steven (Dawn) Johnson of New Glarus, WI and a daughter, Ann Johnson of Port Washington, WI, three nieces, and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Cora and his wife, Jeanette.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 506 12th Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Gene Talley officiating.
Relatives and friends may call from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI.
The family suggests memorials be made to the North Beaver Creek First Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, rural Ettrick, WI.
