Norman D. Posey, 84, long time Rockford resident, died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2009 in his daughter's home in Oregon. Born December 14, 1924 in Elroy, son of Harry and Mabel Endriss Posey. Graduated from Stockton High School. U.S. Army veteran, having served in North Africa, Italy and Occupied Germany during WWII. Married Dorothea I. Posey in Rockford on December 14, 1954. Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a master machinist and had been employed by Brooks Machine Shop, W.F. & John Barnes Co. and Anderson Manufacturing Co. He was a member of the Eagles Club and had formerly held memberships in numerous community organizations. Norman never said a bad word about anybody and everyone that knew him enjoyed his eccentric sense of humor.
Survivors include his children, Lee L. Guerra, Houston, TX, Samuel (Carol) Powell, Monticello, WI, Gary Posey, Byron, Gayle Posey, Rockford, Karen (Owen) Howard, Oregon and Steven Posey, Rockford; son-in-law, V. Rulon Hemingway; daughter-in-law, Elvira Powell and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sisters, Dorothy (Bill) Holland, Ruth "Sis" Becker, Barbara Linker, Carolyn Nieman and brother, Charlie Posey. Predeceased by his wife, Dorothea on March 15, 1990; his parents; daughter, Cheryle; son Harry; a sister, brother and an infant brother.
Funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL. Burial in Ladies Union Cemetery, Stockton, IL. Visitation from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be established in Norman's name at a later date.
