NEW GLARUS - A New Glarus family was shocked when a "highly intoxicated" and half-naked stranger broke into their home in the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 16, according to court records.

Michael Matthew Smith, 29, Beach Park, Ill., was jailed on a Kenosha County warrant after police arrived on scene. He faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, resisting an officer, criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to a dwelling and lewd and lascivious behavior.

Police were called first to the 100 block of 6th Avenue at 2:42 a.m for a report that a man was outside a residence yelling profanities, urinating in the street and pounding on the porch railing.

When they arrived, the man - later identified by police as Smith - ran off and broke into a home in the 600 block of 2nd Street, waking up the family sleeping upstairs.

He was yelling and swearing and "only partially clothed, with his genitals and pubic area exposed."

Smith's initial appearance is scheduled Nov. 4. His signature bond is set at $3,000 with the conditions that he not drink or go into bars or liquor stores.
