MONROE - A 47-year-old Browntown man was cited for driving under the influence, fourth offense, after he and his 22-year-old passenger were injured in a motorcycle crash early Sunday morning.
According to the Green County Sheriff's Department, deputies were dispatched just after midnight to the Monroe Clinic Emergency Room to investigate a one-vehicle crash with injuries that occurred earlier on County M at Smock Valley Rd., in the Town of Jordan.
Their investigation reportedly revealed that the operator of the motorcycle, Dan E. Downs, was traveling south on County M when he lost control while negotiating a curve.
The motorcycle entered a ditch and overturned on its side. As a result, passenger Ashley Smith, also of Browntown, was ejected from the motorcycle.
"Smith was transported to the Monroe Clinic ER in a private vehicle for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash," said a sheriff's department statement.
Downs was cited for causing injury while operating under the influence, fourth-offense operating under the influence, failure to notify police of an accident, and operating without insurance.
He posted cash bond and was released pending court, police said.
Both were treated for injuries and helmets were not worn by either rider. Downs' motorcycle sustained no visible damage and was driven from the scene.
