VERONA/NEW GLARUS - Morris B. Marty, age 94, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Willow Point Assisted Living in Verona, WI, with family members present. Morris was born May 29, 1915 in New Glarus, WI, the son of Jacob and Bertha Marty. He graduated from New Glarus High School in 1932. On June 8, 1941 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Vogel. She preceded him in death in 2004. Morris and Dorothy farmed in Blue Valley near Mt. Horeb from 1946 to 1948, and then moved to New Glarus where they farmed until 1965 when he sold the farm to create the Edelweiss Chalet Golf Course. Morris was a lifelong member of Swiss United Church of Christ. He served on the consistory from 1953 to 1959. Morris was clerk of the Town of New Glarus for 38 years, served on the board for Mt. Pleasant-Perry Insurance for 23 years, and as its president. In 1972, he became a part-time assessor for four townships over the next 22 years. Morry loved golfing and all sports. He was proud to be a member of the last basketball team from New Glarus that went to the state tournament in 1932.

Survivors include two daughters, Rita (Bob) Menamin of Verona and Beth (Patrick) Heaney of Omaha, NE; two sons, Dennis (Ann) Marty of Blanchardville and Richard Marty of Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Maureen, Scott, Ann, Caitlin, Jance, Kasey, and Jaymie; eight great-grandchildren, Sam, Joe, Garrett, Grace, Shannon, Emma, Max, and Quinn; and a sister-in-law, Mae Thousand of Mt. Horeb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy in 2004, and his two sisters, Lorna and Harriet, in 2008.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 5th Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. John Jewell officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI.

A memorial fund has been established.
