Milford C. Olson age 83 of Orangeville, IL, formerly of Monroe, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital following a brief illness.
Milford was born April 30, 1928 in Argyle, the son of Clarence M. and Masey (Johnson) Olson. He attended Argyle schools and entered the U.S. Marine Corps on June 21, 1945 in Milwaukee. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict before retiring from the military as a Gunnery Sgt. on June 20, 1965.
He married Lorraine Block on September 17, 1948 at Camp Lejeune, N.C. In 1968 the couple settled in Monroe where Milford worked at Moore Business Forms until retiring and moving to Adams - Friendship. He has resided with his daughter in Orangeville the past 2 years.
He was a member of Monroe American Legion Post #84, a Past Master of Monroe Masonic Lodge #31, was an avid Packer fan, and enjoyed camping and fishing.
He is survived by three daughters, Myra (Robert) Kuhse of Havelock, N.C. and their children, Selena and Travis, Rene (Ron) DeHaven of Orangeville and their children, Chris (Sarah), Richard (Jamie), Nichole and Courtney, Dawn Olson of Monroe and her son, Brian Davis Jr.; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine on August 31, 2000; a brother, Myron "Bud" Olson; two sisters, Dorothy Hoffman and Evelyn Carberry; and a half-sister, Clarinda Neuenschwander.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 3:00 p.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor Steve Barr officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in the East Clarno Zion Church Cemetery, Clarno Township, followed by a dinner at the Monroe V.F.W. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 8:00 p.m. A Memorial fund will be established in his name.
