Mary A. "Marie" (Hegi) Hanson age 86, of Monroe, died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was residing at the Harbor House in Monroe.
Marie was born April 6, 1925 in Stephenson County, Illinois, the daughter of Ernest and Anna (Grossenbacher) Hegi. She grew up on a farm in Rock City, IL later moving with her family to a farm near Brodhead. She graduated 6th in her Brodhead High School class of 1943. She worked at the Beloit Corp before her marriage to Leo D. Hanson on August 29, 1947. She and Leo farmed near Woodford for many years. Marie was a hard worker helping with chores such as milking cows and feeding calves.
She was a member of the Jordan Lutheran Church, Jordan Ladies Guild, and made many pies, lefse, and other Norwegian delicacies for the Fall Bazaar. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, was a wonderful housekeeper, and a very loving, caring wife and mother to Leo and her four children.
He children are Lorraine (David L.) Deininger of Monroe, Daniel Hanson of Woodford, Barbara (Daniel) Holverson of Sanford, FL, and David C. Hanson of Monroe. She is further survived by two grandchildren, Ryan (Lauren) Holverson of Calara, AL, and Adam (friend Morgan) Deininger of Monroe; two sisters, Emma Berndt of Monroe, Frances (Joe) Williams of Brodhead; and three sisters-in-law, Glenda Hegi Wyssbrod of Martintown, Judy Hegi Clark of Brodhead, and Marianne Hegi of Worcester, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 29, 1999; three brothers, Leonard, Walter, and Robert Hegi; two sisters, Evelyn (Boyd) Figi and Kathleen (Delmar) Anderson; a brother-in-law, Hilton Berndt; and a nephew, Mike Figi.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 12, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor Dennis Perger of the Jordan Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in the Jordan Church Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m..
