LENA - Marjorie M. Wenzel, age 87, passed away Monday, February 13, 2012 at Liberty Village in Freeport, Illinois. She was born to John and Hulda (Rolli) Ammon on April 3, 1924 in Winslow, IL. She was married to Leland J. Wenzel on August 2, 1946 in Monroe, WI. Marjorie graduated from Winslow High School in 1942. She received her Bachelor's Degree in teaching from Northern Illinois University in 1946. She taught Home Economics at Stockton High School from 1946-1948. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lena, Hannha's Circle of Good Shepherd, Blackhawk Home Extension, and Stagecoach Quilters. Marjorie was very involved in her church, and taught Sunday school for many years. She loved flowers and growing things, and created and cared for beautiful flower beds on the farm in Kent and at her home in Lena. They were a source of pleasure for her and everyone who visited them.
Marjorie was very caring. She was always the first to welcome a new neighbor, call on the sick, remember those who were grieving, and volunteer her time and talents. She was an incredible letter writer. In her lifetime it is estimated she wrote thousands of cards and letters to family, friends, and anyone in the community who needed a kind word, caring thought, encouragement, or a simple thank.
She was always cheerful, never complained and looked on the bright side of life.
