NEW GLARUS, WI - Marie Steiner, age 98, of New Glarus passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison. She was born on March 31, 1911 in New Glarus to her parents Ernest and Barbara (Hefty) Kubly. Marie attended New Glarus Schools. On November 24, 1932 she was united in marriage to Wilburt Ervin Steiner in New Glarus. Marie worked at the Upright Swiss Embroidery and New Glarus Post Office until her marrying her husband Wilburt. She was a lifelong member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus, and was a member of the first confirmation class of Rev. Rettig in 1927. Marie was also a member of the GUGG, Women Relief Corps, and Lyle School Mother's Club.

Marie is survived by her son Sheldon (Marjorie Schmidt) of Juda, WI, two daughters; Darleen (Roger) Symdon of Oregon, WI and Shirley (Richard) Moyer of South Beloit, IL, eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and a sister-in-law Olga Steiner of Belleville, WI.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1920 and mother in 1926, her husband Wilburt on May 21, 1970, a sister Erna in 1932, a grandson Russell, a great-grandson Aaron, and a daughter-in-law Diane Steiner.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 5th Ave., New Glarus, WI with Pastor Petra Streiff officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus is serving the family.

She will be missed by all her family and many friends. A special thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at St. Mary's Care Center who took care of her every need to the very end. Thank you to all who visited her at the nursing home and to Pastors Marty and Streiff for their visits as well.
