Age 91 of Monroe, died Monday, June 25, 2012 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Marie was born May 12, 1921 in Monroe, the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Weiss) Kraus. She married Benjamin Knouse on July 4, 1948 in Monroe. The couple farmed in Monroe before moving to Rockford in 1966. Following her husband's death on November 16, 1985, Marie returned to Monroe where she was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Marie enjoyed quilting and was proud to have sent many quilts overseas. She also had one of her quilts displayed in the state capitol building.

Marie is survived by four children, Gary B. (Ronda) Knouse of Rockford, IL, Terry L. (Pat) Knouse of Winnebago, IL, Pamela M. Miller of Plant City, FL, and Brent F. (Erlinda) Knouse of Burr Ridge, IL; four grandchildren, Kathy Knouse, Terry (Debbie) Miller, Jason (Dena) Knouse, and Jennifer Viel; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Kraus of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Gretchen Sylvester of St. John's United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at St. John's Fellowship Hall. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
