Margaret "Peggy" Comfort Wetter passed away June 19, 2016. Peggy was quite impressed by her age, and rather doubtful that her family was accurately keeping count, when she celebrated her 90th birthday earlier this year.
Peggy was born to Roslyn Wayne and Margaret Emily (Bell) Comfort on February 1, 1926 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of three, including her siblings David and Helen. Her fondest childhood memory, according to the volume of stories, was of her family dog, Scout.
Peggy attended the University of Tulsa and became active in the Delta Delta Delta sorority, which would remain an important part of her adult life. Peggy was an avid photographer, the family historian, and a consummate letter writer.
Peggy married the dashing Arthur Wetter on July 18, 1953. They settled in Des Plaines, Illinois and opened a public relationship firm. They welcomed a daughter, Carol, in 1959. Through the years, they prized their boxers and later regaled their grandchildren with old film reels of the dogs.
Peggy was always on the go, rarely home in time to cook supper, for which her family is eternally grateful. Peggy was an active member of the Maine Township Republican Party and an alderwoman in Des Plaines, along with joining fellow professional women in Soroptimist. With Art, Peggy was involved with the Des Plaines Theater Guild, the Des Plaines Historical Society, and the First Congregational Church. Art and Peggy were very social and, based on the amount of glassware and serving trays they owned, entertained in style.
In 1992, after many years of letting her family know they would be moving south to a warmer climate, Art and Peggy turned their map upside down and moved to Albany, Wisconsin. There, Peggy was involved with the Albany Historical Society and the United Methodist Church.
Peggy lived a long, full life and is remembered fondly by her family for never passing up a newspaper article that needed clipping, never meeting a dog she didn't make friends with, and always having twist ties and spice drops on hand.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Carol (Wayne) Stemple of Albany; granddaughters, Rachel (Greg) Schardt of Monroe and Denise (David) French of Albany; great-grandchildren, Chase, Abigail, Ian, and Jonathan; sister, Helen Warden of Dallas, Texas; nephews, Bill (Betty) Warden of Mansfield, Texas and John (Debbie) Warden of Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Arthur; brother, David; brother-in-law, Hugh Warden; and great-granddaughter Emily.
Peggy's life will be celebrated at the Albany United Methodist Church on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Brad Mather officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday. Peggy will be interred with her husband at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma at a later date. In the spirit of Peggy's love of community, the family asks for donations to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of Valley Park and Monroe Clinic Hospice for their extraordinary compassion and care of Peggy.
