Lily Bailey, age 93 of Monroe, died Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born April 6, 1922, the daughter of Ernest and Estella (Drye) Stoehr in Cadiz Township, Green County.
Lily was married to George R. Salter on March 20, 1942, and later married Glenn C. Bailey on June 12, 1961. Lily worked at Structo & Micro Switch in Freeport, IL and at a nursing home in Tujunga, CA. Lily also lived in North Bend, NE, and Tujunga, CA, with some winters spent in Phoenix, AZ. She was the last survivor of 7 children. She liked reading books, working crossword puzzles, going fishing and she never saw a cat she didn't like.
Surviving are daughters, Dorothy (James) Wells of Monroe, Eleanor (Lee) Weaver of Rockford, IL; sons, George (Linda) Salter of Janesville, Larry (Linda) Salter of San Jose, CA; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters Martha Rhodes, Irene Parsons, Alice Tretter, Vada Miller and brothers Fred Stoehr and Paul Stoehr.
A gathering time of friends and relatives will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Private family graveside services will be in Saucerman Cemetery, Cadiz Township. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lily's name to the Green County Humane Society, due to her love of cats would be appreciated. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
