Lillian V. Long, age 96 of Monroe, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at Woods Crossing in Brodhead. Lillian was born August 1, 1917 in South Wayne, the daughter of Joel and Amanda (Johnson) Hale. She graduated from South Wayne High School and married LeVerne Long in Chicago. Lillian and her husband farmed in the Warren and Gratiot area until moving into Warren in 1952. They owned and operated Florine's store on the Monroe Square from 1964 until retiring in 1975. Lillian was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Questers, and San Souci Dance Club. She also served as chairman of the Green County Democratic Party and was actively involved in the development of the Monroe Arts and Activities Center (MAAC).

Lillian is survived by two daughters, Vicki (James) Graham of Tucson, AZ and Mandy (Ed) Pas of Monroe; three grandchildren, Eric Graham of Fountain Hills, AZ, Angie (Jean Pierre) Dherbey of Bordentown, N.J., and Alex Pas of Chicago; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Suzanna Dherbey. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeVerne on Jan. 17, 2009; an infant son, Timothy; three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11:00 A.M., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Randy Booth of the Monroe United Methodist Church officiating. Private family burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Warren, IL. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
