Leland Maurice Nyman, 89, of Pecatonica, passed away with family by his side Sunday, March 1, 2009, in Medina Nursing Center, Durand. Born April 24, 1919, in Durand, the son of William and Laura (Schoch) Nyman. He attended Davis schools and graduated from Durand High School. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Persia from 1944 to 1946, and when he returned, worked as a milk tester in Jo-Daviess County. Leland married Lillian Lofgren, Feb. 11, 1951, in First Lutheran Church, Pecatonica. He worked as a dairy farmer near Dakota, Ill. and then to Davis, Ill., with an interest in Registered Holstein Herds. He enjoyed researching his family genealogy and driving the countryside in his car. In retirement he enjoyed helping other younger farmers. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Pecatonica, the Holstein Dairyman, and Winnebago Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian; special great-nephew, Charles (Sue) Long; special friends, Vern Adams and Markland Hayes; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009, in First Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Jacoby officiating. Burial in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service in church. A memorial will be established. Arrangements by Kenneth L. Countryman Funeral Home, 529 Washington St., Pecatonica.
