Leland G. Hartwig, 96, of Monroe, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017 at Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. He was born on Sept. 3, 1921 in Monroe, the son of George and Ella (Kundert) Hartwig. Leland married Arlene L. Martin on Dec. 13, 1947 in Janesville.
Leland farmed northwest of Monroe on the family farm until his son took over the farm in 1976 and later selling the farm in 1992; he later worked for Rufer Refrigeration for 12 years; picked up and delivered milk samples. He also worked for Johnson Taxi Transport for people with disabilities and Ruda Chevrolet picking up and delivering cars.
He was a member of the Monroe Bible Church, 50-year member of the Loyal Order of Moose #754, serving as governor in 1976; member of the Antique Wheelers, and was a member of various farm organizations. He also served as Jordan Township treasurer for 26 years and was a faithful blood donor for years, donating 22 gallons.
He is survived by his children, Jeff Hartwig of Monroe and Leanne Rosander of Rockford, Ill.; two grandchildren: Alexandra and Katherine Rosander; a brother, William (Marilyn) Hartwig of Monroe; brothers-in-law, Herman Blum and Robert Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Sept. 19, 2017; parents, an infant son in 1951, brothers, Harold (Bertha) and Robert (Betty) and sister, Mildred Blum.
A Celebration of Leland's Life will be held Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Monroe Moose Lodge in Monroe with a time of sharing at 2:30 p.m. The family would appreciate any memories friends and family would like to share, either in writing or at the luncheon. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Monroe Clinic Hospice.
