LaVerne B. Maddix, age 85 of Knoxville, died February 27, 2018. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Knoxville and was a former member of Union Presbyterian Church, Monroe, WI. She was born in Kansas City, MO on September 30, 1932, the daughter of the late Elmer L. Martha (Cooper) Wilson. LaVerne graduated from Turner High School in Kansas City, KS in 1950 and the University of Kansas in 1955. On August 25, 1957, she married Dr. Bill L. Maddix in Kansas City, KS. LaVerne served for several years as organist for Metropolitan Avenue Methodist Church and as a district director for Camp Fire Girls in Kansas City, KS. In 1965, she and her husband moved to Monroe, WI where they lived for thirty years and Dr. Maddix was in practice at the Monroe Clinic. In Wisconsin, she did coin appraisals for
banks, insurance companies, and private estates. She was a former member of the Monroe Curling Club and the Monroe Country Club in Wisconsin and the American Medical and Dental Curling Club.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde G. Wilson, and her beloved husband, Bill L. Maddix. LaVerne is survived by her son Robert Maddix and grandson Joshua of Des Moines, IA; son and daughter-in-law Steven and Rebecca Maddix; granddaughters Corinne and Erica, and grandson Ryan Jacob Maddix of Elkhorn, WI.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, 700 S Hall of Fame Dr. Knoxville, TN 37915, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be made to Union Presbyterian Church, 2708 5th Street, Monroe, WI 53566.
