LaVada J. Roper, age 81, of Monroe, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born on January 20, 1932 in Darlington, the daughter of John Francis and Norma (Canon) Downey. LaVada and Cecil Roper were married on March 3, 1951 in Darlington.
LaVada was a member of Monroe Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed photography, gardening, cooking, listening to music, writing songs & stories, bird watching, especially red cardinals & wildlife, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Arnie (Janet) Roper of Platteville; Jesse (Grace) Roper of Monroe; Ron (Cindy) Roper of Wisconsin Dells; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and special friend Art Schneider.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband Cecil and son Gerry.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave. in Monroe. Burial will follow in West Ella Highland Cemetery in Lafayette Co.
A visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. Saturday, until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A memorial fund is being established in LaVada's memory.
