Kenneth M. Brooks, age 83 of Monroe died peacefully at his home after a battle with leukemia on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.
Ken was born August 26, 1928 in Freeport, the son of Melvin and Violet (Benson) Brooks.
He married Lucille Friedly on February 16, 1952 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe.
They farmed in the Brodhead/Juda area until moving to Brodhead in 1969 He was employed as a mechanic at Ruchti Implement of Brodhead from 1969 until 1973. Ken and his family moved to Clarno Township where he farmed from 1973 until moving into Monroe in 1996.
He was a member of the Clarno Zion United Methodist Church. His greatest love was being with his family, but also enjoyed bowling, fishing, model trains, going to the casino, his John Deere collection, and was an avid Packer fan.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucille Brooks; three children, Judy (Daryl) Meighan, Jerry (Alice) Brooks, Laura (Terry) Hughes, all of Monroe; eight grandchildren, Michael Landen (Kamille Zuhlke), Angie Meighan, Jeremy (Michele) Meighan, Jessica Hughes (fiancé Martin Akins Jr.), Ryan Hughes, Cory (Liz) Brooks, Kyle Knoll, and Carissa Brooks; eight great-grandchildren, Alex, Ashli, Aayliah, and Jordan Landen, Mercedes Coplien, Tristen Anglin, Cole Meighan, and Wesley Brooks; and his brother, Gordon (Helen) Brooks of Juda.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Barbara Landen in 1980.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011, at 11:30 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Reverend William "Mike" Heath of St. John's United Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Kenneth's name.
